Technical Buyer

Role Overview

As a Technical Buyer within a high-performance engineering organisation, you will be responsible for the sourcing, procurement, and timely delivery of materials to support production and customer demand. This role combines strategic supplier management with hands-on purchasing activity, ensuring cost, quality, and delivery targets are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop key supplier relationships across a global supply base
  • Plan and schedule materials in line with production and customer requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with international suppliers
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to define and execute purchasing strategies
  • Manage component obsolescence and lifecycle risks
  • Source technical components aligned to cost, quality, and performance objectives

Key Requirements

  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Minimum 2 years in a technical buyer role
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (engineering, operations, finance)
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and solutions-oriented
  • Willingness to travel internationally where required
  • Worked in B2B side not B2C

Core Activities

  • Lead supplier negotiations, including contracts and commercial terms
  • Identify and deliver cost reduction and value engineering opportunities
  • Manage stock levels through lean inventory principles
  • Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Ensure materials are delivered on schedule to meet operational needs
  • Drive supplier performance and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify, assess, and onboard new suppliers to support business objectives
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), ensuring supply chain readiness and quality standards
  • Contribute to supply chain strategy with a focus on total cost of ownership
  • Monitor commodity market trends and assess supply risk
  • Proactively manage component obsolescence and continuity of supply
