Lead Software Engineer – Mission-Critical Enterprise Software
Location: London (primarily office-based with flexibility where appropriate)
We're partnering with an ambitious, well-funded technology company that's building advanced software used in some of the world's most demanding operational environments. Their platform enables organisations to harness AI, autonomous systems and complex data to make faster, smarter decisions where reliability and performance are non-negotiable.
Following significant investment and continued growth, they're looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to take ownership of a key area of their flagship platform while mentoring a team of exceptional engineers.
The Opportunity
This is a genuine hands-on leadership role where you'll split your time between designing and developing complex software, making key technical decisions, and supporting the growth of your engineering team.
Working closely with Product Managers, Designers and fellow Engineering Leads, you'll help shape both the technical direction of the platform and the future roadmap of the product.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the technical direction for a core area of a large-scale enterprise platform.
- Designing, developing and delivering high-quality production software.
- Mentoring, coaching and supporting engineers across the team.
- Conducting code reviews and driving engineering best practice.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-focused features.
- Influencing architecture, roadmap planning and technical strategy.
- Communicating technical decisions, risks and trade-offs with stakeholders.
- Championing secure software development throughout the engineering lifecycle.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally have:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another technical discipline (or equivalent commercial experience).
- Strong software engineering experience gained in industry.
- Excellent programming skills in one or more backend languages such as Python, C++, Java or Rust, and/or modern frontend development using TypeScript/JavaScript with React or Angular.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring software engineers.
- A practical approach to leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools.
Nice to Have
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Kubernetes and containerised deployments.
- PostgreSQL or other SQL databases.
- Embedded or resource-constrained systems.
- Machine learning or AI-enabled applications.
- Secure software development and application security best practices.
What's on Offer
- Highly competitive salary.
- Meaningful equity in a rapidly growing technology business.
- Enhanced employer pension contribution.
- Private healthcare and dental cover.
- Daily meals provided in the office.
- Cycle to Work scheme.
- Relocation assistance where appropriate.
- Dedicated training budget and access to industry-leading equipment.
- The opportunity to work on genuinely complex technical challenges alongside an exceptional engineering team.
Additional Information
Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK. Due to the nature of the work, candidates must also be eligible to undergo UK Security Check (SC) clearance, which typically requires at least five years of continuous UK residency.
If you're interested in building high-impact software, leading talented engineers and working on technically challenging products that make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
